WIN MEETING MINUTES
MAY 6, 2004
·
Updated By-Laws were distributed and voted on. Linda Dollar made
a motion to accept the new By-Laws; Kim Reser seconded it. Motion
carried. There was one thing left out of the revised by-laws.
The Family Membership was going to be added for $50 membership
fee.
·
All dues will come due on January 1st. If someone becomes a member
now, your dues won’t be due again until January 06. We hope
to do a better job about getting dues paid.
·
A Corresponding Secretary and Historian have been added to the
by-laws. Suzette Crutcher CPS will be the Corresponding Secretary
and Judy Duerkop will be the Historian.
·
Slate of officers has been approved.
·
Recent Events
Drury
recognition – top 100 area athletes
Newsletter
– Sylvia Lee and Laura Scott
We are hoping to get more information out about WIN. There will
be four newsletters a year distributed to our members and potential
members. If you have information you would like to have put in
the newsletter, get items to Reba Sims.
Discussed
the ’74 SMS Softball Champion 30-year celebration. WIN is
submitting the team for a spot in the Missouri Hall of Fame. Jodie
Adams will need some help with this project.
·
We had a booth set up at the Sports Fest held in Jordan Valley
Park in conjunction with the grand opening of the new Ball Field.
·
Coming Events
USA
Softball Team – May 22. All players will be here for the
event. Still selling bleacher seats in the outfield. Running out
of infield seats. Let Reba Sims know if you would like to volunteer
for this event. The USA Olympic Team will be the home team.
WSGT
– August 2 at Millwood Golf Course. We are looking at the
same players as last year with a few new players. All players
from last year want to return but we are looking for a few changes.
We will need volunteers to help with this event. There were 30
volunteers last year. We will need volunteers for the auction,
which will take place at the Clarion Hotel, as well as registration.
There has been $20,000 raised so far. Entry fee is $250. We need
to start getting donations. Would like everyone to get 2 items
donated. Also need items to put in the players packets, i.e. pens,
note pads, key chains, etc. We will not be selling tickets or
merchandise this year.
It
was suggested we have a phone-a-thon to get donations. Brad Eldridge
suggested SMS, Drury player nights as possible donations.
Becky
Morgan will be in charge of the volunteers again this year.
·
Tom Adams has the web page up and running. Thank you to Tom for
all his time and energy in getting a great site working for us
again. Our new email address is Springfieldwin.org. The City of
Springfield has graciously let us use their server. The reason
we are able to use the City’s server is that WIN volunteers
their time for City events.
·
The City of Springfield is a USOC training site for Weightlifting
and Tennis.
Springfield is the only Olympic training site for tennis and there
are only three in weightlifting.
·
Women’s Sports Foundation – Discussed with Billie
Jean King on other events we might initiate in Springfield. One
possibility might be our involvement with a WIN Walk for Athletics.
Donate money earned back to Athletics Programs in the area.
·
Price Cutter Championship – WIN will be helping with Women’s
Golf Clinic, which is 10 days right after the WSGT. The Missouri
Hall of Fame sponsors this event. WIN needs volunteers for this
event. Jodie will meet with Jerald with the Missouri Hall of Fame
next week. Mary Jo Wynn moved that WIN would help with this event.
Cindy Deskin seconded it. Jodie will get back with us on information
about the Price Cutters Golf Tournament.
·
Need to get out and see some of the games in the area, whether
it is high school, jr. high, or college. It was suggested that
we have a scholarship fund to help girls in High School and Jr.
High sports activities.
·
It was suggested that WIN offer a speaker’s bureau to provide
women in sports to help with athletic banquets and other events
where speakers are needed. We will try to publicize a list of
available speakers.
·
Cindy Deskin suggested that the high school sports needed certificates
for the girls that make all conference recognition, which is something,
WIN might be able to provide. She also said there was interest
in providing a luncheon get together for volleyball and basketball
coaches in the area during their seasons sort of like Tip-off
club events. We will find out more about what Jenny Hopkins from
Hillcrest did on this last year and try to get involved with volleyball
and basketball. Marla Douglas suggested we pursue getting the
high school coaches involved with WIN by making a call or taking
them out to lunch and talk about WIN to them and other ways we
might help them with their programs.
·
Sports Commission’s Executive Director, Brad Eldridge, has
a show on JOCK 98.7 on Tuesdays at 4 p.m. He discusses upcoming
sports events in the area and has been very supportive of WIN
and our activities. As soon as we get a list of his scheduled
events, we will put it on the WIN website.
