Just wanted to let you all know what went on at the Meeting and to keep you up to date.
1) Cindy Deskin reported on the WIN Reception we are planning for April 25th at the Tower Club doors open at 4:30PM with the Award winners will be recognized at 5:30. Casual/business dress. We will recognize area athletes in the following categories.

Dr. Cecile Reynaud, Florida State University, will be our emcee and will have some of her books, She Can Coach, available to purchase and for autographs. Cecile graduated from MSU and was an outstanding player in volleyball for Linda Dollar.
We will announce another Award that will be recognized next year at the 2007 WIN Banquet at the Clarion. All WIN members are encouraged to attend the Reception to honor these Award winners and get acquainted with possible sponsors for the Banquet. Cost is free for the reception.
2) Reba reported that MSU will host the first annual BCFO softball tournament on March 3,4,and 5 for the five D-1 schools in the state. All proceeds will go to the BCFO. WE will need some volunteers to help with the donation buckets at the gate and to sell some merchandise. I am working on the schedule now. There will be games at 4:00pm and 6:30pm on Fri, 3rd, and 10:00, 12:30, 3:00, and 5:30 on Sat, 4th, and Sun, 5th, 10:00, 12:30, 3:00 and 5:30. If you can help, please email me so I can get you on the schedule. Also we are going to have a tail gate at the games on Sat at 10:00 am on the street between the field and Hammons. We will have food free for all the WIN members and we will sell other meals to fans at the game for BCFO. WE will need people to bring dishes to compliment the hamburgers and hot dogs we will grill. Let me know who can help with the tail gate. If any of you want to recognize friend and family by having a pink ribbon put on the fence for them, let me know immediately. Cost for a ribbon is $1 each and the person’s name will be on the ribbon and it will be on the fence at the game.
We also may need some breast cancer survivors to throw out the first pitch at some of the games. If you or someone you know might want to do this, let me know.
3) Cindy also reported that WIN members need to get busy collecting the auction items for WSGT Auction. The tournament will be August 13 and 14 this year. Not sure where the auction will be this year but we will still need the auction items so get busy.
Berry Ward reported that we will again need volunteers to help with the tournament. If you have a preference as to which job you want to work, get your name in early. Contact Betty at 831-6366 or 502 W Portland, Springfield, MO 65807. It will cost each Volunteer $10 for the player pack and the meals at the Pairings/auction and lunch at the tournament.
4) Reba reported on the Bike Rides. We want to get them started again but will set a particular date to ride. Last year we set all Saturdays and any one that could come show up and I don’t think anyone rode so we will set a particular Sat. to ride and let everyone know where for that day. We will go back to once a month and see if we can get back on a schedule.
5) Reba reported that the newsletter would be going out soon. If anyone had any material to be added to get it to me immediately.
6) Betty reported on the Court Talk meeting of the basketball coaches in the area. Reba and Betty have been going to the Tuesday meetings at Ryans. WIN awarded $100 to one of the high schools who brought one of their boosters to the meeting. High school's name was drawn from the hat to receive the award. Central High School was awarded the first $100, and Dan Stander was very excited to win the money. We will give another $100 on March 7, at their last meeting.
7) Leslie Peck and Peck’s Insurance have been helping WIN present certificates again this year for the Ozark Conference All Conference Girls. Thanks Leslie.
8) Linda Dollar gave a report on the COPD and told that the weight lifting and tennis were continuing to attract quality young athletes and that volleyball had gotten off to a great start last year. Women’s Ice Hockey is in the future. Bob Belote reported that the Park Board was hosting several events at Jordan Ice Park in conjunction with the Olympics, including the opening exercises and the closing exercises. Check it out. They also plan on having large televisions available to watch.
9) WIN is excited to announce that one of our nomination, Kristen Folkl was chosen to be inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. She is a quality athlete. We are very proud of her and her accomplishments in volleyball and basketball within the state, at Stanford University, representing the USA in the Olympics, and in the WNBA.
We had Lisa Tinkler and her golf team from Drury serve as our hosts. The team all introduced themselves and told us their major. That was a very nice addition to our meeting and it was nice to have them there to get involved with WIN. Several of them have volunteered for the BCFO softball event and the WSGT Golf Tournament. We look forward to working with these young women.
WIN is growing and we are getting into more events. Please get involved and help us promote girls and women in sports in Southwest Missouri.
